Chateau Eugenie Tsar Pierre Le Grand Cahors
The History
According to the local county records, there is traces of wine-growers from the Couture family from 1470, working for the Lord of Albas. And the name of the estate is a tribute to their great-great grandmother Eugénie. The vineyard covers 54 ha (135 acres) on the terraces of the Lot valley, on the semi-slopes and on the plateaux of the Causse.
The Grape
85% Malbec – 15% Merlot
Tasting Note
The cuvée ‘Tsar Pierre Le Grand’ has a very dark, almost opaque color. The bouquet is opulent and voluptuous, with aromas of violet and lavender, of prune compote, of vanilla and undergrowth. On the palate, the wine surprises with its nobility and elegance. The potency of the Malbec grape, appearing somewhat rough in its youth, is beautifully tamed by the subtle tannins due to the Merlot grapes.
