New Arrival - Chateau Le Cengle - Côte de Provence Rosé - France

capture-de28099ecran-2011-03-16-a-102156For the spring, discover the new Côtes de Provence Rosé: Le Cengle

The History: Close to Aix, in the commune of Châteauneuf-le-red, the castle displays Galinière 16 hectares of vineyards at the foot of the plateauCengle. The field was acquired in 2006 by Vincent Sauvestre, vintner, in Burgundy. Shifted since 1994 by a quality job, the field will retain the range of wines already established, while dramatically expanding the production of rosé. The ambition of Mr Sauvestre is to reach 35 or 40 ha, as the earthworks are they made to the plantingCinsault, Grenache and Syrah. A redevelopment of the area calls for building a new vault and updating of the aqueduct, built by monks300 years ago, to bring water to the castle.

The Vineyard: The vines are, on average, 30 years of age and are situated at the foothills of the “Cengle” range of hills in the village of Chateauneuf- le-Rouge on the road from Aix to Italy. The soil consists mainly of Bauxite which gives the soil its beautiful red colour, together with clay and chalk. The grapes are handpicked in order to guarantee the quality of the fruit and the yields are not high. The grapes are gently pressed immediately on arriving at the winery to abstract the delicate colour from the skins

Tasting Notes: 50% Syrah, 30% Grenache Noir, 12% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Mourvèdre. Delicate pale salmon color. It exudes the warmth and aromas of the Provence region with spontaneous, crisp, fresh, balanced citrus flavors with a hint of berries and brioche. The Syrah and Grenache grapesendow the wine with an elegant, aromatic balance. An amazing Grenache/Syrah Rosé.

A family friend of the Club, Jeanmichel Daniel’s beautiful 2 year old son Sebastien has been diagnosed with leukemia (AML M1) and has been through two chemotherapy treatment at the Children’s Hospital in Central California.
On April 22 the doctors let Shannon and Jeanmichel know that Sebastien’s DNA panel was positive for monosomy7 on the leukemia cell, not a good result. This means a high risk of the leukemia returning after treatment and it was time to go to plan B. Once Sebastien’s immune system had recovered more he would go home for a week beginning May 1. During this time he would make a visit to City of Hope in Los Angles to see the bone marrow specialist on May 6. After the week at home, Sebastien will be back at Children’s Hospital in Fresno for 2 more cycles of chemo.
For May and June the treatment includes 10 days of chemo, 20 days at the hospital, 10 more days of chemo, 20 days of rest and then transfer to city of Hope for bone marrow transplant scheduled on July 19th. Jeanmichel, Shannon, Julien and Sebastien will be in Los Angeles for at least 4 months starting in July. The good news is that Julien, Sebastien’s older brother is a match for the transplant. The family is in for the long run and spending the next 5 months or more at the hospital will prove to be a financial hardship.
Our dear friends, Shannon and Jeanmichel Daniel are two of the most beautiful and generous people you will meet. Not surprisingly, Shannon and Jeanmichel have two beautiful sons who are smart, curious and kind. Julien, the big brother is 4 and Sebastien is 2 years old and they are best friends. Shannon is a nurse and Jeanmichel is a massage therapist and swim teacher in Fresno. They are both very involved with their children and volunteer and volunteer when they can despite their very busy schedules.
