LOMBARDS
SCOTCH-WHISKY
Single Malts
|
Lombard
is a well-established independent bottler
of Non-Chill Filtered Single Malt and
stocks are wide-ranging and diverse. Whiskies
are from distilleries now closed, lesser
known malts and unusual barrel types.
After Lombard had established itself as
a key supplier of Single Malts to other
independent bottlers, the 1990s witnessed
the malt whisky category develop and Lombard
diversify their interests to the cased
goods market - the company’s first
move to control the utilisation of mature
stock.
The Single Malts supplied by Lombard range
from 46%al.vol (92 US proof) to cask strength.
They are never tampered with, ie, not
chill filtered, not caramelised and not
artificially coloured.
Lombard’s new range of Single Malts
has been named ‘The Jewels of Scotland’.
An apt name given the heritage possessed
by the whiskies offered under this name.
At the bottom of each face label there
is a colour coding for the distillation
area. This gives a greater understanding
of what to expect from the accompanying
whisky – especially when the bottled
whisky has a Distillery name or heritage
that is unknown to the consumer. Every
face label provides tasting notes and
gives advice on what to look for when
sampling. |

Area Malts
|
| The
distillation areas are clearly colour
coded giving an educated ‘route
map’ for both the consumer and sales
assistant. This colour coding remains
consistent into the Non Chill Filtered
Jewels of Scotland and gives the consumer/sales
assistant some direction on what
will suit their palate. Each bottle has
a back label tasting note. These whiskies
are at least one or two single malts (ONLY)
that Lombard have put together as Lombard’s
representation of the finest characteristics
from each area. Bottled at 40%alc.vol
for consistency and so the whiskies can
be enjoyed neat, or with water/mixers.

TIDAL
EBB - An Islay Malt Whisky
Back
Label tasting note:
Islay is a small westerly island which
produces some of Scotland’s most
precious and characterful malts. Tidal
Ebb is a well balanced malt giving a
rich, positive and peaty aroma which
betrays its origins near the sea.
A great after dinner dram’.
AWARD:
Beverage Testing Institute - Silver
Medal - ‘Highly Recommended’
– 88
“Rich orange amber hue. Pungent
aromas of smoky peat and brine follow
through on a spicy, dry palate with
a rounded mouthfeel. Finishes in a peaty,
salty manner. Unquestionably an Islay
malt though less iodiney than Laphroaig
and less peaty than Lagavulin.”

A fine drink at anytime.’
AWARD:
Beverage Testing Institute - Gold Medal
- ‘Exceptional’ - 90

meadow flower scents. Mash-tun atmosphere.

“Pale amber-gold color. Light
heather and peat in the nose. A brisk
attack leads to a light-bodied palate
with modest sweetness in the malt and
balanced layers of peat and oak spice.
Finishes with a breath of ocean spray,
powdered sugar, and heather.”
David Best in FreeHouse Owner Magazine
wrote:
NOSE - Antique burnished gold is the
colour that best describes this Speyside
Single Malt which is blessed with aromas
of honey and heather overlaid with a
whiff of smoke and spice.
PALATE - On the palate, the smooth,
silky attack develops into an explosion
of flavours with honey and peat.
FINISH - Long dry finish with just a
whisper of burnt toffee.
CONCLUSION - A stunning whisky which
slips over the palate like wild silk
over a maiden’s thigh.

SMOKING
EMBER – A FULL BODIED Malt Whisky
Back
Label tasting note:
‘FULL BODIED, robust Malt Whisky.
Well balanced with a hint of sweetness
and a fine lingering aftertaste betraying
its origins near the sea.’
AWARD:

“Pale amber. Sea spray, iodine,
and charred peat aromas are appealing.
A supple, round, medium-bodied palate
with charred grain and herbal notes.
Finishes with a trace of sweet malt
and a lash of ashy oak spice. Like a
lighter style of Islay whisky.”
Martine Nouet in Whisky Magazine wrote:
NOSE - Straight from the kiln. Sooty.
Haddocky. Sea spray. Bog myrtles. Apples
cooked under ashes. Seductive.
PALATE - You get what you nose but in
a tame manner. Smoked sea-scallops,
salted buttered fudge.
FINISH - Firm and crisp, reluctantly
fading away like the sun sinking into
the sea.
CONCLUSION - A ‘love it’
or ‘hate it’ islander. Bold
and uncompromising. And so charming.
